Dept Q (Netflix)

A new kind of detective drama is coming to Netflix—and it's bringing the dark, cerebral charm of Nordic noir across the North Sea to Edinburgh. Dept. Q, based on the internationally best-selling crime novels by Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen, gets a fresh English-language adaptation that blends brooding atmosphere with gripping cold case mysteries.

At the center of the series is Carl Morck, a once-celebrated detective who’s now fallen from grace. Reassigned to the basement of the police department—a posting that seems more punishment than promotion—Carl is tasked with heading up a new unit for unsolved cases. Begrudgingly at first, he starts digging into the dusty files, only to find that many of them hold more than just forgotten paperwork—they hold secrets people would kill to keep buried.

As Carl assembles a small but tenacious team of misfits and outsiders, Dept. Q begins transforming from a bureaucratic dumping ground into a formidable force for justice. The show kicks off with a haunting cold case that reawakens buried trauma and sets the tone for a series that’s as emotionally layered as it is thrilling.

With its Scottish setting and slow-burn intrigue, Dept. Q promises a thoughtful, character-driven crime saga—ideal for fans of Broadchurch, Luther, or The Fall. Netflix’s adaptation marks the first major English-language take on the beloved literary series, which has already seen success with Danish film versions.

Whether you're drawn in by the puzzle-like cases or the emotional unraveling of its damaged protagonist, Dept. Q is shaping up to be one of the must-watch crime dramas of the year.

Duster (Crave)

Crave is throwing it into high gear with Duster, a gritty, stylish crime drama set in the sunbaked chaos of 1970s America. Co-created by J.J. Abrams and LaToya Morgan, this high-octane new series blends throwback muscle-car cool with a gripping tale of loyalty, justice, and betrayal.

Set against the dusty backdrop of the American Southwest, Duster follows Jim Ellis (Josh Holloway), a getaway driver for a powerful crime syndicate based in Phoenix. Jim is fast, loyal, and dangerously good behind the wheel—until a determined FBI agent, Nina Hayes (Rachel Hilson), enters the picture. With ties of her own to the criminal empire’s shadowy kingpin, Ezra Saxton, Nina has both the motivation and the intel to bring him down.

When Jim and Nina form an uneasy alliance, they become an unlikely team trying to dismantle the empire from the inside out. Their mission takes them deep into a world of high-stakes heists, underground dealings, and explosive car chases—all drenched in rich 1970s atmosphere and style. The decade’s grit and glamour serve as the perfect backdrop for a story that weaves together personal vendettas, deep-rooted corruption, and just the right dose of noir.

Duster is more than a crime drama—it’s a character-driven thrill ride with nods to Drive, Justified, and even a little Breaking Bad, offering both pulpy tension and dramatic heft. And with J.J. Abrams involved behind the scenes, expect cinematic flair and big twists along the way.

The Bear (Disney+)

Fresh off a string of Emmys and a critically acclaimed third season, The Bear is back for its fourth—and possibly most ambitious—season yet. What started as a gritty, kitchen-sink dramedy about grief and transformation has evolved into one of the most dynamic and emotionally resonant shows on television.

Created by Christopher Storer, The Bear follows Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White), a fine-dining prodigy who returns to his Chicago roots to rescue his late brother’s run-down sandwich shop. Over the past three seasons, we’ve watched Carmy and his chaotic-but-loyal kitchen crew, including standout performances from Ayo Edebiri as Sydney and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Cousin Richie, transform “The Beef” into a high-end culinary destination, battling personal demons, financial pressures, and each other along the way.

Season 3 leaned into the calm before the storm, focusing on character study, quiet tension, and the weight of maintaining greatness. But in Season 4, the heat is back on. With The Bear now fully operational and garnering buzz as one of Chicago’s most promising restaurants, Carmy and the team must navigate the crushing expectations that come with success. Creative differences flare, past traumas resurface, and the dream that once brought them together could now threaten to pull them apart.

Expect searing performances, elevated storytelling, and the same high-stakes energy that made The Bear appointment viewing. The cast remains stacked, the writing razor-sharp, and the kitchen hotter than ever.

Wilson stars as Pryce Cahill, a once-promising golfer whose explosive on-course meltdown cost him a shot at greatness. Years later, with his career in the rough and personal life unraveling, Pryce gets a shot at redemption when he's asked to mentor Santi, a teenage golf prodigy with raw talent and a complicated path of his own.

What begins as a reluctant coaching gig quickly turns into something more—an emotional journey of second chances, unlikely friendship, and the quiet pressure of a game that demands perfection. As Pryce guides Santi through the high-stakes world of elite junior golf, he’s forced to confront his own demons and decide if he’s ready to grow up as much as his protégé.

With Wilson’s signature charm and a story full of grit, grace, and plenty of swing, Stick is shaping up to be a smart, character-driven underdog tale set against the scenic backdrop of competitive golf.
