Cursed (Netflix)

In this re-telling of the Arthurian legend, Nimuë (Katherine Langford) embarks on a quest to deliver a mysterious sword to Merlin (Gustaf Skarsgård) while evading the dreaded Red Paladins. Based on the young-adult book of the same name by Frank Miller and Thomas Wheeler, this imaginative series has set itself apart from other series such as Game of Thrones and The Witcher through its more diverse and inclusive cast.

Greyhound (Apple TV+)

Tom Hanks takes the lead as Commander Ernest Krause of the USS Keeling, codenamed Greyhound, as he and three other battleships escort a fleet of 37 Allied ships across the unprotected region of the Atlantic Ocean, known as “The Black Pit.” The film makes the most of its 90-minute runtime by packing in intense action sequences against German U-boats, as told from the open air of the ship's command perch. Based on the 1955 novel The Good Shepherd by C.S. Forester.

Little Fires Everywhere (Amazon Prime Video)

Based on the 2017 novel by Celeste Ng, this web series explores what it means to be a mother as two families collide in spectacular fashion. Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon star as mothers from different socioeconomic backgrounds, trying to do right by their children. Set in the late 1990s, you'll love the nostalgic feeling of cars with handheld phones and other nods to a bygone decade.

Harriet (Crave)

Harriet tells the story of Harriet Tubman, famed abolitionist who freed approximately 70 slaves by way of the Underground Railroad in the 1800s. The film centres around Cynthia Erivo as Tubman and features Leslie Odom Jr. (of Hamilton fame) and Janelle Monáe (Hidden Figures). If you are seeking an engaging and heartfelt biopic, this is a great place to start.

Hamilton (Disney+)

If you missed seeing this original Broadway production live, with the original cast no less, then here is your chance. Written and composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda, it tells the story of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton from his arrival in New York City in 1776 to his death at the hands of Aaron Burr (played by Leslie Odom Jr.). A variety of camera angles and close-ups provide a Broadway experience you won't get in person.
